Embracing creative patronage, Mutina has launched Dialogues, a series of tile experiments by contemporary artists and designers—Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, Scheltens & Abbenes, and Albert Moya among them. One example is Passaggio della Vittoria by Paul Thorel at the Museo MADRE in Naples, Italy. The 2,000-square-foot mural is composed of over 1 million porcelain and enameled-stoneware mosaics, each a 1/3-inch square and digitally printed with a gloss finish. The tiles’ size mimics those found along the vaulted Galleria della Vittoria, a tunnel that links the eastern and western parts of the city, while their pattern evokes the sea.
